Norwich has delivered a new breed of Indie Rock in the form of The Islas. Upbeat rhythms, sharp melodies and thoughtful lyrics that hint at clear influences such as The Smiths, Beautiful South and Sam Fender – but there’s something new with this Eastern Quartet.
The song lyrics are harvested from youth and the experiences British adolescents face throughout their journey into Adulthood. The anxiety, happiness and first loves – and everything in-between. Their loveable on-stage character was captured with This Is Noise branding the group – “Four guys who have the ability to steal anyone’s heart”.
Debut EP ‘A Generation To Forget’ was released in 2018 after being written, recorded and mastered all from drummer Chalu’s Garage. With constant plays from BBC Introducing and an ever growing social media fan base, the quartet started taking things seriously.
After catching the eye of producers Sugar House (Larkins, Corella) Islas travelled to Merseyside to record singles “Aileen” and “Back of Your Neck”. Both arrived in 2019 and saw The Islas move onto the next level. Featuring on many playlists such as Spotify Hot New Bands, ITV syncs, BBC Introducing and Norwich City FC’s match-day playlist.
The Islas used 2020 as a time to write and think about what’s next. Three tracks are expected to land before the end of 2020 and the quartet are now starting to scratch beneath their surface of potential, highlighting themselves as one of the South East’s brightest up and coming artists.
The Islas will be your new favourite band. – One Unique Blog.
